Accra, the bustling capital city of Ghana, is not only known for its vibrant culture and rich history but also for its lively and eclectic nightlife scene. From trendy clubs and rooftop bars to cultural performances and live music venues, nightlife in Accra is an exciting and diverse experience that will leave visitors wanting more. As the sun sets, the city comes alive with an array of entertainment options that cater to all tastes and preferences.

Live music venues in Accra

One of the most prominent features of Accra’s nightlife is its music scene. Ghana is renowned for its unique musical genres such as Highlife, Hiplife, and Afrobeat, and Accra serves as the epicenter for live music performances. The city is home to numerous venues where both local and international artists showcase their talents.

Here is a list of live music places you can enjoy at night in Accra.

Alliance Française

A cultural center that hosts regular music events featuring a mix of traditional and contemporary African music. Please check out their upcoming events to catch the next live music event.

Sofar Sounds

Sofar Sounds is a global music community that connects artists and audiences through live music. They are present in 400 cities around the world, and Accra is one of them! Enjoy intimate, live performances in unique, secret spaces. The location of the concert is not revealed until 36h before it starts.

You can join their newsletter to be one of the first ones to discover the next concert or check their website  for more information.

The Piano Bar

Located in Teshie, The Piano Bar is the home for music lovers & creatives. It is a very intimate space with very engaging crowds (expect to sing along with the artists!). This is the place to go if you want to discover new local artists.

+233 Jazz Bar & Grill

You will find this live outdoor music venue in North Ridge. The space plays host to live bands six days a week covering high-life, blues and jazz. Not as intimate as The Piano Bar for example, but very lively and interactive. Expect to find more of a local vibe to it and more of a mature audience.

Kona Cafe & Grill

One of the most well known venues in Osu, with more of a casual vibe to it. This  is not a place dedicated uniquely to live music, but they also serve food, cocktails and it is a pretty famous place for nightlife in general (bar/club kind of style).

Zen Garden is a great option to enjoy a nice dinner whilst listening to some live music. The best part about the place is how serene it is. It is tucked away in an enclosed garden, offering both indoor and outdoor seating. Keep an eye out on their website for their weekly live concert events.

National Theatre of Ghana

If you’re in the mood for a more immersive cultural experience, The National Theatre is your spot. It is a prominent landmark that hosts a wide range of theatrical productions, musical performances, and cultural events. From traditional dances to contemporary plays, there’s always something unique and engaging happening on its grand stage.

Bars/ Lounges

If you are seeking for a more relaxed atmosphere but still want to enjoy a nice drink with some good music, here are a few options for you:

Skybar 25

Situated atop the Alto Tower, Skybar 25 offers panoramic views of Accra while serving up delicious cocktails and a variety of cuisines. The trendy ambiance and sophisticated crowd make it a popular spot for both locals and tourists alike. It’s one of the best restaurants in Airport Residential Area.

Sai Wine & Champagne cafe

Sai wine is the spot to enjoy a good glass of wine in a serene and elegant atmosphere. One of their cheapest wine bottles is locally made in Ghana and has an amazing taste. It is infused with a special local ingredient that we will leave for you to discover. It’s a great place to take your romantic partner if you’re dating in Accra.

The Honeysuckle

You can find The Honeysuckle in 4 different locations around Accra: Airport, East Legon, Labone and Osu. It  is a sports bar themed after the famous British sports bars across the United Kingdom, so yes, it has a very British pub style to it. It is a great place to enjoy a meal, a drink and also very famous for watching sports games.

The Republic Bar & Grill

Located in the heart of Osu, The Republic Bar is one of the most well known and visited bars by expats. It does not have such a serene atmosphere as you can find in Sai Wine for example (it’s pretty busy and loud actually, specially on weekends) but they have a good array of drinks for you to enjoy.

Every night of the week, they have something going on: Mon- Paint Night, Tue – Karaoke, Wed- Live Music, Thu- Quiz Night, and Fri-Sun – DJ’S on rotation. Their happy hour is from 5pm-7pm nightly.

Purple Pub

This place has more of a local, casual, relaxed vibe to it. Here you will enjoy an authentic nightlife experience. Great for a pub-crawl option or simply to chill and enjoy some drinks while listening to the latest afrobeat tunes.

Nightclubs – party scene

Alley Bar

Alley Bar is adjacent to the famous Jamestown cafe where you can go during the day to enjoy a nice roasted local coffee.  During the night, Alley Bar is one of the best places to visit if you are around Osu. As the venue is quite small, it gets pretty crowded on weekends.

Bloom Bar

This venue has quickly gained a reputation as one of the trendiest and most happening venues in the city, attracting both locals and tourists alike. It is renowned for its exceptional music and entertainment offerings. The bar regularly hosts talented DJs who spin an eclectic mix of genres, including Afrobeat, hip-hop, R&B, dancehall, and more.

A local food night market!

A night market in a great nightlife location you can visit to really immerse yourself in the local culture and mingle with locals! We will particularly recommend Osu night market which comes alive with the aroma of sizzling street food. Indulge in local delicacies like grilled kebabs, waakye (rice and beans), and fried plantains, all bursting with flavors that reflect Ghana’s rich culinary heritage.
