For those who do not know, ramen is a Japanese noodle soup, with a combination of a rich flavored broth, one of a variety of types of noodle and a selection of meats or vegetables, often topped with a boiled egg. In Japan, it is considered a fast food, and ramen in Ghana is rapidly growing in popularity.
If you’re looking for something different beyond the recommendations of our Accra Food Guide, here is a selection of restaurants you can visit if you are craving for ramen in Accra!
Best ramen noodles in Ghana
Wok Boyz Asian Street
Wok Boyz Asian Street define themselves as the number 1 Asian street food joint in Accra. The atmosphere of the restaurant, full of graffiti paintings and the use of lighting, gives it that feel as if you are in a street market somewhere in Bangkok, Tokyo or Seoul.
The kitchen glass window which allows you to witness the chefs preparing the meals, along with how your food is served (takeout style containers) all add to the street food vibe. Ramen options include tofu, chicken, beef, prawn and mixed meat. Expect to pay approximately 50 something Cedi for a ramen dish.
Another cool dish option you can try is their wok which you can customize yourself in 5 easy steps.
- Step one is to pick your carbs.
- Step two: add some protein.
- Step three: pick some veggies
- Step four choose your sauce.
- Step five, add some final touches like peanuts, fried garlic or coriander leaves (among a couple other options). Expect to pay a similar price to the ramen dish.
Wok Boyz Asian Street is located not far from Green Views, a luxury apartment complex in the Airport Residential Area. Check our exclusive units and join one of the best residential communities in Accra!
- Location: MELCOM PLUS, Otublohum Rd, Accra
- Opening days/hours: Mon-Sun 10am-10pm
Essi’s Eatery
Located in Osu, Essi’s Eatery is a ramen bar which offers Korean inspired meals made from a Ghanaian perspective with Ghanain flavors. Or as they like to call it, it is a “from farm to table” restaurant in Accra.
The restaurant has a small (but very cozy) outdoor space you can sit in to enjoy your ramen. If you want to eat in, it is best you call first to make sure you can get a table. If you are planning to come with a large group of people, this is not the place for you as it can only hold up to about 7 people.
On the menu you can find a variety of ramen options – pork ramen, prawn ramen, tofu mushroom ramen, chicken ramen, beef ramen, and more. Ramen prices range from 60 ghs to 150ghs for the most expensive ramen option (which is the ramen supreme and includes a variety of ingredients like octopus, grilled pork, vegetables and more).
They also offer Bao (a type of filled bun or bread-like dumpling that originates from Chinese cuisines) every Tuesday and Friday. These need to be pre-ordered. Finally you can also enjoy a daily lunch menu which includes dishes like fried pork belly bites, Korean fried chicken wings or BBQ pork ribs.
Our recommendation, definitely come here for great ramen in Ghana! Healthy and tasty meals at an affordable price, with great service!
- Location: Walakataka Road Accra, Ghana
- Opening days/hours: Mon-Wed & Fri 9am-5pm, Thurs, Sat & Sun closed
Korean House Ninano
Korean House Ninano has two branches. One in Osu (on the street behind Number One Oxford Street hotel), and another in East Legon. They offer a selection of Korean and Japanese dishes – from noodle dishes, soups, sushi, grills, Korean Kimbap (Korean rice rolls that look like sushi), and more.
Our recommendation is to try the hot stone Bibimbap, a Korean dish that combines rice, seasoned vegetables, meat, egg, and a variety of other toppings.
It is cooked and served in a stone bowl so the bottom gets deliciously crispy. Their smoothies are also delicious. Freshly made, combined with milk in huge ice-cream-like cups. Prices range from 65ghs for the hot stone Bibimbap or some noodles, to 110ghs for a salmon sushi of 8 pieces.
Staff are friendly, the service is fairly fast and the ambience is also pleasant. They tend to have live music on certain days of the week.
- Location: 6th street, Osu and Boundary Rd, East Legon.
- Opening days/hours: Mon-Sun 11:30am – 9:30pm
ITO – YA Japanese
Come to ITO-YA if you want to taste authentic Japanese cuisine in Accra at an affordable price. A small and quiete ambiance where to enjoy your bowl of ramen. Staff are very friendly and welcoming, plus they know the menu very well (which is always helpful!).
Apart from ramen you will also find chicken, pork, tofu and even Ghanain style dishes (the place is owned by a Ghanain couple who lived many years in Japan). Definitely a good value for money option!
- Location: Kofi Annan St, Accra
- Opening days/hours: Mon-Sat 11am-9pm, Sun closed
